Functions

A. Provide advocacy/publicity for the promulgation of favourable laws or the
amendment of extant laws to support indigenous carriers and maritime operators in
the Nigerian market to carry cargoes generated by the projects of the Federal, State,
and Local Government Councils of Nigeria in line with Sections 35-38 of the NIMASA
Act 2007 as amended.
B. Organize lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops, and any other meetings
necessary for the development of skills, knowledge, awareness, and human capacity
needed for participation in international shipping, sand mining, port management,
dredging of shipping channels, freight forwarding, cargo consolidation and
management, and all related fields of human endeavour in marine and blue
economy.
C. Assess the various ship types to identify the best tonnage characteristics for the
indigenous carriers and conduct any other tests, simulations, research, consultancy,
and publications for promoting profitable sea transport operations and trading
activities in the marine and blue economy.
D. Provide lobbying services and interface for favourable policymaking to support the
development of indigenous capacity in maritime trade and the blue economy.
E. Advise public-sector ministries, agencies and departments (MDAs) and private
sector operators and concerns about data-based intelligence information to guide
new policies or fine-tune existing ones vis-à-vis emerging local and foreign market
trends.
F. Perform all other functions deemed necessary to advance the goals of the Centre as
enunciated.
